About BallroomRank
What is BallroomRank?
BallroomRank is an independent reference for competitive ballroom and Latin dancing worldwide. It brings together competition results, dancer and partnership histories, scoresheets and calculated rankings across International Standard (Ballroom), Latin, American Smooth, American Rhythm and Specialty events.
BallroomRank is an unofficial aggregation for research and reference. It is not a governing body, and its calculated standings are not official NDCA, WDSF, WDC or WDO rankings. For official placements, eligibility or titles, refer to the competition organizer or governing body.
How are DanceSport rankings calculated?
Professional and amateur standings rank partnerships. Pro-Am and Mixed-Am standings rank the student side of a partnership: a student's score comes only from the student's own results, and a teacher is never rated from dancing with students. Styles are ranked separately; a Latin score should not be treated as a direct comparison with a Smooth score.
Rankings, dancer and couple profiles, search and comparisons all use one number, the BallroomRank score, from a prediction model. The model combines competition strength, recent form and experience to predict the complete field, and gives each partnership (or, in Pro-Am and Mixed-Am, each student) one score per style. Boards sort by the displayed score. Scores do not have a calibrated uncertainty estimate. Past standings use each score as reconstructed with the current model after that competition, not a forecast published at the time.
A score moves only when a partnership competes. The score shown on profiles, couple pages and every rankings board is the one after the partnership's latest competition, so it does not drift down between competitions; who appears on a board is decided by its activity window (past year by default). Each style has its own scale: compare scores within one style, using the board's #1, #10 and median shown under its title.
Equality (same-sex) standings use the same prediction model: equality events are their own category, sharing each style's scale through dancers who compete on both circuits. A partnership the model has not scored yet shows its rating from DSR, an earlier whole-history model based on placements, labelled as such.
The default board shows professional Latin dancers active in the past year. Style, partnership type, activity, age and association filters change the comparison being shown. Association filters select competitors from that circuit rather than recalculate a separate official rating.
Rankings are estimates from the available results. Missing competitions, name matching and uneven coverage can affect a dancer's history and standing. Predictions are not competition results.
Where do the results come from?
Records are collected from published results systems: NDCA Premier, CompMngr, O2CM, TopTurnier, the DVET Equality archive, EasyComp, WDSF, WDO, Scrutelle, ScrutineerPortal, eScrut, DSCO and Cre8tive Score (The International), plus an archive of older results from DanceSportInfo. Each competition page names its source and links to the original results; scoresheets and judge marks are shown when available.
Coverage varies by system, competition and year. Some sources publish complete rounds and marks; others publish finalist placements only. A missing result or scoresheet does not mean a dancer did not compete. Historical records can also require corrections when names or partnerships were recorded differently.

For results publishers
BallroomRank imports results that organizers and scrutineers publish openly. Our importer:
- identifies itself in every request as
BallroomRank/1.0, with a link to this section and our contact address; - never signs in, and does not use results that need an account or an access request;
- always obeys
robots.txtrules addressed toBallroomRank:User-agent: BallroomRankwithDisallow: /stops it within a day; - credits the source on every competition page, with a link to the original results.
To stop imports from your site, have results removed, or change how they are credited, email ballroomrank@gmail.com.
How often are results and rankings updated?
Results are imported twice a day, and scores are recalculated after each import. Results imports and rating calculations run separately, so a new competition result may be visible before the next rating calculation includes it. Each rankings board's “How rankings work & data freshness” section shows available import and calculation timestamps. Check the board's date and filters when comparing or citing standings.
How can I correct a record?
Use “Request a correction or removal” at the bottom of any dancer or couple page, or email ballroomrank@gmail.com with the BallroomRank page link, the correction and a link to the published source if available. The same address handles questions and takedown requests. See the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
